FAQs
Have questions about therapy? You’re not alone
Starting therapy can bring up a lot of questions. Here are answers to some of the most common ones about what I offer, how sessions work, and what to expect along the way.
1. What is your cancellation policy?
I require at least 24 hours’ notice to cancel or reschedule a session. Late cancellations or missed appointments will be charged the full session fee.
2. What services do you provide?
I provide individual telehealth therapy for adults (18+) in California. My approach draws from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). I support clients with anxiety, grief, stress, life transitions, and cultural adjustment.
3. Do you accept insurance?
I do not accept insurance directly. However, I can provide a superbill that you may submit to your insurance provider for possible out-of-network reimbursement. I recommend contacting your insurance company to learn more about your out-of-network mental health benefits.
4. What are your fees?
Each session is $160 for a standard 55-minute psychotherapy session, or $200 for a 75-minute EMDR session. Payment is due at the time of service and can be made by credit card, HSA, or FSA.
5. Do you offer in-person therapy?
At this time, I only offer secure video sessions (telehealth). This allows for flexibility and convenience, so you can access therapy from the comfort of your own space.
6. Do you offer sliding scale or reduced fee sessions?
I offer a limited number of sliding scale spots based on financial need. Please reach out if you’d like to inquire about current availability.
7. How long will therapy take?
This depends on your goals, needs, and preferences. Some people find short-term therapy (8–12 sessions) helpful, while others choose longer-term support. We’ll check in regularly to make sure therapy continues to meet your needs.
8. Is online therapy effective?
Yes, research shows that telehealth can be just as effective as in-person therapy for many people. It also allows for greater access and flexibility. To get the most out of sessions, you’ll need a quiet, private space and a reliable internet connection.
9. Can I attend sessions if I’m traveling?
You must be physically located in California at the time of your session, even if you live here full-time. This is due to state licensing laws.
10. What is EMDR and how is it different from traditional talk therapy?
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a structured therapy that helps people process distressing experiences. It differs from talk therapy by using bilateral stimulation (like eye movements or tapping) to help reprocess difficult memories. It’s often used for trauma but can support a variety of concerns.
11. Is therapy confidential?
Yes. Your privacy is protected by law and professional ethics. I’ll explain the limits of confidentiality during your first session. These typically include exceptions related to safety or legal requirements.
12. How do I get started?
You can get started by filling out the contact form or booking a free consultation. I’ll follow up promptly to answer any questions and schedule your first session.
